Host Your Own “Mini Olympics”

Summer is coming to an end for kids in some parts of the country. It’s time to get back to school, studying and activities.

To celebrate the end of the glorious summer season why not host your own summer Olympics? A great active challenge for the end of the summer is a great way to wind things up and get ready for the school year!

Events can be simple and put together with things you have around the house!
THE BLADE/JEREMY WADSWORTH

Egg Carry – All you need here are eggs, spoons (teaspoons for older kids and tablespoons for the
young ones) and objects to create a start or finish line outside. The course can be a straight carry or an obstacle course. Each child places their egg on the spoon and, while being timed, tries to complete the course the fastest while not dropping their egg. The fastest carrier wins!

Jump Rope Challenge – Jumping rope can be fun and challenging! Set up each contestant with a rope and let the jumping begin. Whoever jumps the longest, in either jumps or time, wins!

Farthest Throw – Pick your choice of ball: Baseball, football or even a tennis ball. Participants throw the ball as far as they can. The longest throw wins!

Flying Disk Toss – Create a target in an open area. Whoever gets closest to the target wins!

Now that you’ve determined your winners it’s time to award the prizes! Prizes can be anything you imagine. We recommend a prize for each category and a best overall prize. You can even give prizes for best effort and best sport! You can give literal 1st, 2nd and 3rd ribbons or medals or gift certificates to favorite activities or restaurants.

Have fun and let the games begin!
